MJ Lastimosa... A Winner Who Never Stops Trying

“The greatest advantage of being a woman is being able to compose herself. Just like here, we’re standing in front of thousands of people, not knowing if you’re going to cheer for us or boo us. But we try to compose ourselves. We keep the emotions and show the beauty that is in us and tonight, thousands of people are standing here, celebrating the beauty of women.”

Apart from the most alluring beauty that Binibini 25 really possesses, this honest and meaty answer she confidently made after being asked by Miss Universe 2014 Gabriela Isler: “March is the women’s month. For you, what is the greatest advantage of being a woman?” has definitely been a plus factor making her deserving to bring home the bacon as she was crowned Binibining Pilipinas Universe at the Binibining Pilipinas 2014 Coronation Night on March 30, held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Mary Jean Lastimosa, a 26-year-old beauty from North Cotabato, a personal advocate of staying fit, finally won the crown after joining three times in Binibining Pilipinas.

According to the Bb. Pilipinas website, Binibining Pilipinas 2004, Maricar Balagtas is her inspiration for participating in the country’s most prestigious beauty pageant again. Whenever MJ feels down, she looks up at her and thinks that if she was able to do it and so can she.

It must then be remembered that she was a former Mutya ng University of Mindanao 2007, a beauty contest held in her Alma Mater where she graduated with a degree in Computer Engineering. Subsequently, in 2008, she was crowned Mutya ng Dabaw held at Davao City where she developed her career as a beauty queen and broaden her interest to join in prestigious pageants like this. Then, she finished second runner up in Binibining Pilipinas 2011 pageant, which was won by Shamcey Supsup (Miss Universe 2011--3rd Runner-Up), and made it to the finals in the 2012 pageant dominated by Janine Tugonon (Miss Universe 2012--1st Runner-Up).

Finally, let me just note that MJ Lastimosa is truly a symbol of a WOMAN--a woman who is not afraid of trying and failing, a woman who does not say “I’m done,” and a woman who is proud of being a woman. Indeed she is a winner who never stops trying.
