OPPORTUNITIES AROUND US
Retrieved from www.google.com
There are great opportunities present around us. Seek and you shall find it; lest you will not find it, hope more and time will lead you through.
I have been a witness that opportunities really are around. When I was still in my earliest tertiary education, started taking up Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education, I have been looking for a part time work that could sustain my extra needs in school—a kind of job that is closely related to my present course. Thus, I searched the web, scanned newspapers, but failed to obtain even a single opportunity. What made me unlucky in my quest during that time was the usual requirement that the publishers needed a bachelor’s degree graduate. I got worried and started feeling hopeless of finding a prospect which I really needed. Before I was about to lose my hope, I still encouraged myself to exert more efforts for looking some.
One afternoon, when I was about to leave the school campus, I met one of my closest friend named Jianne. I greeted her and we had some sort of conversation until such moment that she shared to me about her part time endeavor. Actually, Jianne and I, until now are two of the many working scholars in our University. Though we are holding a position like this, we receive neither an allowance nor a single assistance to compensate even the least of our needs, so we have motivated ourselves to seek for some means of earning financially.
Meanwhile, Jianne told me that she was going to report to her sideline occupation in a little while after we talk. I asked her what kind of job was that, and she replied that it was a tutorial class with some Korean students. I got enlightened and tried to please her to help me obtain that kind of career whenever some slots are vacant. She then retorted that indeed, they needed another tutor for some students who were not having a tutor yet. She also added that I was very much qualified for the opportunity. No more requirements were needed and immediately started the job as soon as I arrived in the classroom.
When we got to the classroom where tutorial classes were performed, I found my private tutee (student). She is a third year high school Korean student and a girl in her 16 years of age. I started the tutorial class with her the moment I first met her. I have been covering the general subjects that she is now taking in school, most especially with her English language course. I have been highlighting English from the rest of the courses that she is taking because as a foreign student, of course she needs the most time for quality English lessons so that she will be ready to face the tough challenges as a foreign student here in the Philippines.
At present, I am receiving a salary of sixty-five pesos per hour and rendering two hours of tutorial service per day. As an overall total, I receive a weekly salary of six hundred and fifty pesos.
However, I have been working in a tutorial class with my Korean student for four months now.
You might be asking if I could still manage my time being a working scholar and a private tutor at the same time. My response would be “YES!” In fact, I am compromising neither my academic standing nor my work. One good evident that would prove this is the recent award I received as a third honor student for the last semester.
Moreover, I believe that involving myself to this kind of career serves as an experience that would help me grow and develop in my longest journey towards the success of my preferred profession. :)
Great.,
