Life is a longest journey with countless uncertainties. We could experience laughter at one side and time would surely come that sorrow would occupy the other side of it. This is reality. No one experiences faultless or perfect living. Every one of us deserves to experience both happiness and sorrow because it should be understood that in happiness, we should realize pain of sorrow, and in sorrow, we should appreciate the value of happiness.

I would tell you now about the life story of a person who, despite the bitterness of his life, does not forget to smile and persevere for the realization of his dreams.

His name is Erwin Cuajao Salva. He is 18 years old and he was born on May 24, 1994. He was born in Langihan, Butuan City which is a far place from the city where he is living today. He is the second eldest among the three children in their family. His older brother, Mark, is four years older than him and his younger brother, Frederick is ten years younger than him. His mother, Florencia, is a housekeeper while his late father, Zacarias, who died at the age of fifty-two, was once an appliance technician. Now that his father is gone, whether he likes it or not, he needs to work harder to sustain his needs and also the necessities of his family.

Erwin is a working student in a catholic university in Davao City. Back in high school, he had decided to become a working student in college, understanding the fact that his parents could not afford to send him to school after high school. He did not allow poverty to be the hindrance in pursuing his dream of becoming a teacher. So with all of his determination, he sought for a scholarship opportunity and luckily, was granted one. He started his college in 2010 and he has been working there for three years now.

In the mid of his college journey, he realizes that he needs to acquire another job from where he could earn financially so that he could sustain his obligations in school. Motivated with the desire to help himself, he forgets the hectic and stressful schedules he has in school. He strives to find another opportunity. Until one day, he was invited to become one of the private tutors of some Korean students studying in the city. Without any hesitation, he accepted the offer and glad to say that despite his obligations in school, he has been working as a private tutor for six months now.

He is really a hardworking person. He works in university every day, from morning to noon, attends actively to his class from noon to afternoon, and performs his duty as a tutor in the evening. He is a symbol of hard work and positivism. Despite the hardship that he experiences in his life, he is still optimistic. There shall be sunshine which comes after a heavy rain, so there shall be reasons to smile after life’s imperfection. :)
