Illogical Intervention

A fault of some is not a fault of all!

This is a basic logical thinking which most of the angered Taiwanese are not getting right now. They are enraged with the recent incidence happened to the Taiwanese fisherman who was shoot to death by some of the Philippine Coast Guard officials after the victim reportedly trespassed on the Philippine Sea . Right after the incident, the Taiwanese government as well as the family of the victim appealed for a public apology by the Philippine government. As response, the latter did what was requested yet the former still was not satisfied and raised other requests like the cancellation of the Visa approval of the OFW’s to travel to Taiwan. Subsequently, many discrimination cases to the Filipinos in Taiwan have been reported which resulted the Philippine nation to bother about the welfare of the many countrymen who are presently working there. It was reported that the Filipinos were discriminated and maltreated. How absurd!

The Taiwanese government should exert effective efforts to stop the prejudice that most of the Taiwanese have been imparting to the Filipinos in Taiwan. Basically, the OFW’S are not the perpetrators. They are purely innocent. They are in Taiwan to work for their families in the Philippines. In fact, they have been showing the best in them to impress Taiwan and be reminded that Filipinos are industrious and productive. Looking at these, the Taiwanese should realize that the Filipinos do not deserve the offending treatment which now dominates in their country. Second, the Philippine government has done its part to make a formal apology to Taiwan. It was not a simple job for the government to apologize after the people of Taiwan knowing that it was not actually the mistake of the entire government. The Philippines has gone beyond to answer this request so, the effort which the Philippines has exerted should further be accepted and understood. Lastly, if the Taiwanese government still wants to maintain a dependable relationship with the Philippines and the other countries as well, it would be a beneficial decision for them to stop their degrading treatment to the OFW’s in Taiwan. Time would surely come that the Taiwan would ask a help from the Philippines and how could the latter afford responding positively to their future demands if they themselves do not want to hold a strong relationship with the Philippines?

It must be clear to the both parties, Philippines and Taiwan, that the authorities of the two countries have been doing their best to solve the problem. The Philippines has the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to intensively examine the killing incident. However, Taiwan also has special detectives to perform such investigation. Let them finish their tasks first before we make conclusions or actions that probably hurt any of the both parties. In the moment that the results of the investigation would be legally presented, let those guilty perpetrators face the consequences of their wrongdoings not those individuals who remain innocent about the incident.
